How does it work?
Extreme cold is often the ‘go-to’ to treat pain and inflammation, making it ideal to treat headaches and sprains. The cold helps constrict blood vessels and reduce the neurotransmission of pain to the brain.
A 2013 study found that applying a frozen neck wrap at the onset of a migraine significantly reduced pain in participants with migraine headaches. Researchers believed that the wrap cooled the blood flowing to the carotid artery in the neck, helping to reduce the inflammation in the brain and, in turn, improve the pain felt by migraines.
